English for Academic Purposes

Courses in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) offer intensive language instruction designed for non-native speakers of English. Courses include the following:

EAP1620 Academic Reading:

Students develop the ability to comprehend and interpret authentic college-level texts in content areas by applying appropriate reading strategies. The course has a strong academic vocabulary acquisition component and will also introduce readings of interest on the topic of accent reduction.

EAP1640 Academic Writing:

This course will develop the student’s ability to write academic essays and basic research papers, with an emphasis on accuracy, clarity, and cohesiveness. Additionally, practical rules of conventional grammar are infused throughout the curriculum.

Both EAP1620 and EAP1640 are our college’s highest academic language courses for non-native speakers of English. It is expected that students registering for both or either of these classes have a strong foundation in English.
