Summer Falcon Camps

11-12 Team The Lady Falcons competed against the National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) All-Stars when the NPF Back-to-School Tour stopped in Daytona Beach last fall. Daytona State is the only Junior College to have hosted the NPF. "We look forward to making more lifetime memories with this year's outstanding group of student-athletes."

There are six sophomores returning from the 2011 season. The returners include one of last season's top Region VIII pitchers, Jackie Owen (Region VIII 6th ranked ERA, FCCAA Mid-Florida Conference Second Team, FCCAA Mid-Florida Scholar Athlete). Gina Figliolia (FCCAA Mid-Florida Scholar Athlete and Conference Honorable Mention) returns with one last season's top bats. Daytona State returns speed to the base path with, infielder, Kathryn Spack (FCCAA Mid-Florida Conference Scholar Athlete) and outfielders Courtney Feliciano (FCCAA Mid-Florida Conference Scholar Athlete) and Katie Capobianco. Francesca Magliocchetti will complete the outfield with her strong arm.

The Falcons have several new faces on the roster this season. The talented group of incoming freshman brings athleticism and strength to our lineup. Catchers, Kadieann Tighe and Carissa Porter should make an impact in the Falcon lineup. Kristalie Cabral, Kaylyn Freeborough, Brittany Hummell, Sammy Martin, and Tarin Knott will be competing at practice to start on the infield. Freshman pitchers, Tanna Seuferer and BreAna Eckman add diverse pitching styles to the falcon staff.

The Coaching staff and all of our student-athletes take both academics and athletics together seriously. In 2010 the Daytona State Softball program was named the FCCAA Female Academic Team of the Year. This season we plan to exceed last year's team GPA and add to the list of Daytona State Student-Athletes named Mid-Florida Conference Scholar Athletes, FCCAA All Academic Team, NJCAA Academic All Americans, NJCAA Distinguished Academic All Americans, and Who's Who Among National Junior Colleges, and the renowned Jean Williams Award.

Community service is also important to the Lady Falcons as they have many projects planned for this year. Assistant Softball Coach, Alissa Smith, is the Community Leadership Committee Coordinator within the athletic department. The softball team has been recognized for their exceptional community service efforts with the ARC of Volusia County, Habitat for Humanity, Relay for Life, The American Heart Association Heart Walk, Breast Cancer Awareness Softball Tournament, WESH Channel 2 "Share your Christmas", Christmas Shoe Box for Haiti, Support Your Troops, Falcon Reading Program, and Little Falcons Softball Clinics over the years.

Expectations for this upcoming year are high as our sophomores are ready to lead the way to improve upon last year's record. The Lady Falcon's should return to the state tournament again as a contender for the Atlantic District Championship.
